whats your opinion on the whole adam / queerbaiting topic ?

cherryandsisters:

ok so first off, no voltron did not queerbait, there WERE canonically queer characters plus shiro is still alive and gay and a very prominent leader/character

but while vld did not queerbait, their handling of gay story lines was disappointing, that’s totally a valid point of criticism

I’ve talked to a lot of my friends who’re gay and love voltron and while we agreed that the season had many enjoyable parts, executive melding and general homophobia stemming from the higher ups probably severely limited what the cast and crew were allowed to show and do, which is why the end result was so messy

I get that this season was about showing the severity of war and that not everyone gets a happy ending, but when you kill off a gay character in THE SAME SEASON where you introduce another (possible) unnecessary m/f romance……..that’s just not a good look man

I was of the mind that “shiro doesn’t need a love interest to have his gayness validated” but now it’s like, if the show is gonna pair off all their main male MCs with a girl but leave ONLY SHIRO without a love interest? yeah that doesn’t sit well with me, in the larger context of things it’s not a good move

I know people right now are split between “voltron is the worst and the crew all need to die” and “voltron owes u nothing and can do no wrong” but i’m more of “I really loved a lot of this season but it definitely had some problematic elements and questionable choices that i hope are addressed/resolved in season 8″

at the end of the day, it’s not about ships, it’s about shiro’s character getting the justice he more than deserves, and I hope dreamworks realizes that holding back their show-runners will do more harm than good

(also netflix needs to get rid of those shiro/adam thumbnails, it’s absolutely not a good idea to use those as promo images lord)
